January Update and What’s Coming Up!

As we step into 2025, WorkingMouse is gearing up for an exciting year of growth. Over the past year, we’ve been improving our internal systems, expanding our team, and enhancing our support offerings. Here’s a look at what we’ve been up to and what’s coming next.

Investing in Learning & Growth

One of our proudest initiatives is our continued collaboration with the University of Queensland (UQ) with the Codebots Indigenous in IT Scholarship. This scholarship supports Indigenous students entering the tech industry. We’re working closely with UQ to increase the scholarship amount and ensure continued support for students.

Beyond this, we’re committed to upskilling our employees. Continuous learning is a core value at WorkingMouse, and we encourage our team to grow wherever possible. Recently, Sami, one of our DevOps Developers, completed her Kubernetes Fundamentals training, marking another step in our commitment to developing technical expertise and staying ahead in the industry.

Enhancing Our Team & Workplace

Our team is expanding! We’ve recently brought on new hires, including software developers, technical business analysts, and a designer, and we’re actively looking for more talented individuals to join us. We post all job opportunities on our LinkedIn, so keep an eye out!

To improve team collaboration, we’ve also made some exciting office updates. A new chalkboard in the kitchen now highlights new starters and upcoming events, while a dedicated wall for internal event posters keeps everyone informed—thank you, Kaila

We’ve also introduced a fun Emoji Story Icebreaker (thanks to Gaby!) to kick off projects with both internal teams and clients. Team members pick three emojis to represent their feelings and expectations about the project, encouraging open communication and insights into team dynamics from the start.

Developing Learning Pathways

We’ve refined our Paths system to create a more intuitive experience, improving clarity in our models and introducing new visuals for qualification courses. These updates help streamline learning, making it easier for employees to upskill and track progress.

Additionally, one of our biggest strategic goals for 2025 is modelling the business through Learning Pathways. This initiative will systemise our business and create smoother onboarding —ensuring consistency in knowledge transfer and making career growth clearer for everyone.

Strengthening Our Technical Capabilities

We’ve been making key improvements to our technical infrastructure:

Michael has been working on a major rewrite of our pipeline architecture to make it more efficient and easier to manage. Their focus has been on breaking down CI/CD jobs into independent modules, so they can run separately without unnecessary dependencies. This makes our pipelines more flexible, reducing complexity and improving performance.

A key improvement Michael introduced is the clear separation between what a job does (its core functionality) and how it runs (workflow configuration). This allows teams to customise jobs for their needs without having to redefine existing logic. Michael also introduced a workflow hierarchy, which means similar jobs can share settings, reducing duplication and making it easier to maintain pipelines across projects.

These upgrades have made our development and deployment processes faster, more reliable, and easier to manage.

Robbie fixed Uptime Kuma monitoring, ensuring that if one of our apps goes down, we receive real-time notifications via the “Notify” app. This helps us maintain optimal uptime for both our clients and internal tools.

Alongside these technical upgrades, we’ve enhanced our support offerings, rolling out improvements to ensure a more robust and responsive system that meets the evolving needs of our users.

Commitment to Quality & Sustainability in 2025

To work smarter and more sustainably, we’ve established new committees focused on quality management and environmental responsibility. Led by Daniel, Hayden, and Georgina, the QSGT (Quality & Standards Governance Team) and ESMG (Environmental & Sustainability Management Group) are spearheading efforts to achieve ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications. These certifications will help us maintain high standards while positively impacting the environment—something we’re really passionate about!

As we continue refining our processes, investing in our people, and strengthening our partnerships, we’re excited about what 2025 has in store. Thank you to our team, partners, and clients for being part of this journey—we look forward to another year of innovation and success!
