The Java Platform, Micro Edition (Java ME) provides a robust, flexible environment for applications running on mobile phones and other embedded devices. There is no standard OS (operating system) across all mobile phones; though Java ME allows the definition of profiles (CLDC and CDC) which allow the application to run on many devices. In short, there are more than 2 billion enabled mobile phones and PDAs.

Andriod is an open-source software stack for mobile devices, and a corresponding open-source project led by Google. The goal is to create a platform whereby it is open and easy for developers, carriers, and manufacturers.
